The Dutch Vault

“The Dutch Vault” in Houten, province of Utrecht, houses the Royal Dutch Mint. The impressive gold-coloured building with state-of-the-art security systems is a striking appearance. The entire building is enclosed with water and can rightly be called a “vault”. The gold-coloured facets on the building are inspired by the faceted portrait of King Willem-Alexander on the Dutch euro coins, designed by Erwin Olaf.

More than 450 Years of Tradition

Since 1567, the Royal Dutch Mint is the only producer of Dutch circulating coins. We are an innovative and internationally oriented company dealing in added-value products, rooted in more than 450 years of tradition. Developments of recent years are laser and 3D techniques on coins, which enable, for instance, applying holographic elements or security features. The Royal Dutch Mint belongs to the global top 5 producers of circulating coins, commemorative coins and collector’s items.

Issues 2021

It is with great pride that we announce our new annual program. In 2021, the Royal Dutch Mint will strike two official commemorative coins in commission by the Dutch Ministry of Finance. The year will also be filled with exciting collaborations: we will, amongst others, celebrate a famous Dutch tennis player and pay tribute to a beloved Dutch artist. In this year we will also launch several official restrikes of beloved (trade) coins, anticipated all over the world. Take a look at our video to see what’s coming!

Official Restrike: ” Scheepjesschelling”

The Royal Dutch Mint proudly presents the first official 2021 issue: the restrike of the “Scheepjesschelling”, a former Dutch trade coin that depicts a ship. The restrike is available in pure silver and in pure gold, both in regular and Piedfort editions. The restrike in gold does not only have the exact same diameter as the original silver coin from 1786, it is also placed in a very exclusive coin holder manufactured by the world famous company Royal Leerdam Crystal. The waves in the crystal represent the seas the trade coin once sailed. It’s breathtaking!
