Mint Profile

The Royal Australian Mint is Australia’s national mint and sole producer of circulating coins for Australia. It is a prescribed agency within the Commonwealth Government portfolio of the treasury.

The Mint was officially opened in Canberra in 1965. Its first tasks were to produce distinctively Australian coinage and facilitate a smooth changeover from British imperial pounds, shillings and pence to Australia’s own decimal dollars and cents.

Today, the Mint also produces circulating coins for other countries, and manufacturers a vast array of collector coins, investment products, medals and medallions for domestic and international clients. As a world-class mint of 56 years’ standing, the Mint has been recognised as an industry leader in quality, technology and innovation.

2022 Kangaroo Series – Impressions of Australia

The Royal Australian Mint has immortalised Australia’s most Iconic animal as part of it’s ongoing ‘Kangaroo Series’, now in its twenty ninth year.

These Silver and Gold coins feature a glorious kangaroo design that pays homage to the great Australian Impressionists. An information and evocative style evokes the play of light and shadows unique to Australia’s flora and fauna.

2022 $2 Coloured Uncirculated Coin – Australian Honey Bee

In 1822 honey bees successfully arrived at Sydney Cove Australia on the ship Isabella.  Since that time, Australians have enjoyed the delicious taste of honey produced from our many Eucalypt trees.  Honey bees also play an invaluable role in producing the food the world eats, with the agriculture and horticulture industries relying heavily on honey bees for pollination of their many crops.

This 2022 $2 coloured uncirculated coin celebrates 200 years of honey bees contributing to the Australian economy.
