The XXIV Olympic Winter Games is held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou from February 4 to February 20, 2022. Beijing has become the first host city of both the summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games.

The People’s Bank of China issued the Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games (First Issue) and (Second Issue) in December, 2020 and October, 2021.

The two issues include 1 bi-metal coin, 7 gold coins, and 11 silver coins, depicting the main venues for the games, the mascots, the Olympic torch, combining traditional Chinese culture and modern winter sports.

The special iridescent coloring technology creates changing colors like that of beautiful fish scales under different lighting. The subtle changes are to simulate the beauty of ice and snow under the sun.

Chinese Panda Gold Coins have become the best representation of China’s modern precious metal commemorative coins ever since they were first launched in 1982. Celebrating the 40th anniversary in 2022, the finely crafted Panda Coins are among the world’s most beloved coins particularly because of their yearly different portraits of the adorable panda bears.

The 2022 version, which consists of 9 gold coins, 3 silver coins and 2 platinum coins, was launched on October 20, 2021.

In 2022, except for the familiar Chinese Panda, New Year Celebration, Auspicious Culture and Chinese Zodiac programs, we also celebrate:

– the 24 solar terms, which made a dazzling appearance at the Beijing 2022 opening ceremony;

– China’s calligraphy, traditional painting, national park and world heritage;

– important events including the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou and the 46th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai, 2022;

– the completion of China’s space station.

The People’s Bank of China’s issuing plan of 2022 precious metal commemorative coin programs includes 14 programs and 91 items in total. For detailed information, please visit: http://www.chngc.net/weben/contents/1375/746.html
