Experience that pays off.

System solutions for minting technology.

Anywhere in the world where a coin changes hands, it is likely that the coin has been manufactured on a Schuler press.

Schuler supports minting technology with innovative developments and numerous patents. For example, at the turn of the 19th Century, it was possible to produce up to 60 coins per minute on Schuler presses – an astonishing achievement for the time. Today, high-performance machines from Schuler achieve performance levels of up to 850 coins per minute. Our customer-focused practical research and development is continuously improving the efficiency of our machines. Ongoing new developments – such as the edge lettering for bi-metallic coins or the manufacture of machines for tri-metal coins – supplement our extensive product range.

Blanking press Blankmaster SAK 160: For manufacturing coin blanks in highest quality

A wide variety of materials can be processed on the Schuler Blankmaster SAK for the manufacture of coin blanks.  Processing applications include aluminum and relatively soft alloyed materials such as brass or bronze up to very hard materials such as nickel or special/stainless steels. More than 80 highspeed blanking lines Blankmaster SAK have been installed over the last years to customers  all around the world.

Horizontal coin minting presses series MRH

Horizontal minting presses of the series MRH are used exclusively in the processing of round blanks. With cycle times of up to 850 strokes per minute, this model series is especially well suited for a high minting volume. The small number of coin-specific change parts ensures short changeover times and a broad flexibility of application.

Vertical coin minting presses

Vertical coin minting presses models MRV have a wide range of application. They can be used to manufacture round and multi-sided coins, as well as bi-metal and tri-metal coins. For the production of bi-metal and tri-metal coins, joining and coining is completed in one operating sequence.

Coins for Cash. Introduction of the Schuler Coining Center M2R with inline inspection including customer’s perspectives regarding Tri Material Coin

At the Global Currency Forum 2022 in Barcelona, Schuler will present its latest coining center M2R combined with integrated inspection systems. Including the advantages which Industry 4.0 offers, this new production center ensures the supply of coins with proven quality, just in time and at the highest possible efficiency.

The combination of production processes goes far beyond the simple coining process. The State Mints of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the Bavarian State Mint have gained experience with the delivered coining centers and are happy to share their experience and provide feedback on the production of 2 Euro coins, as well as of 5 and 10 Euro, the so-called “Tri Material Coins”.

Both Government Mints were highly involved in the development of these innovative Tri Material Coins (TMC), which have the special feature that the ring and core are separated by a high-quality translucent polymer ring.  The unique polymer technology is a global pioneer for the coin industry. The development groups dedicated many years of research to producing a polymer ring which is implemented into the coin during the striking process. The translucent polymer is not only impressive due to its distinctive appearance, but it offers hitherto unrivalled security to protect the coin from forgery. Since the feature is virtually impossible to imitate by today’s counterfeiters it closes the security feature gap between coins and banknotes. We are looking forward to meeting you in Barcelona!
